Faming is almost complete.....

Hear are a few pictures of the framing process as it has unfolded. Watching our home develop has been absolutely amazing. It started as a rectangle and now we can actually walk into each room of our house. The rafters are almost completly in and soon we will have complete roof and brick. Check back soon for new pictures. We are so excited to see the progress, and are glad to share the fun with you! Thanks for visiting

Is it an illusion....it better be...I hope it is

For the first time in this experience I think the house is WAY too small. I know that I stated that the footing/foundation looked small and that Shomari was freaking out earlier...I know it is only an illusion but now I see what he is talking about.

I was prepared for the excavation to look small, no problem. I was prepared for the foundation to look small, no problem. I had done my research and was truly prepared!

But last night as I walked around the skeleton of our house I was filled with dread - it was WAY WAY too small. Had I made a horrific mistake?? My gosh, the master, my future retreat, is the size of a large walk in closet!!

I had to remember that I knew what the house was going to look like, we had toured a model of THIS house and we actually made one room BIGGER. So what was happening HAS to be only an illusion. Our house is having fun with me. House's do not get to play a lot and during this process I think they are enjoying themselves.

I'll keep you posted.

Meeting w/ the Builders

We had a meeting today with Richard & Listy. We finalized the changes that we made to the floor plan today because the framers will start framing our home on Tuesday!

There were a "few" things that we adjusted on the original plan and they just wanted to make sure the framer got everything correct. (moved the laundry room, added a mud room, took out a couple of walls, added a storage room, added some additional plumbing, adjusted the size of a few windows, took a door or two away from here and there, added one here and there....just a few changes)

I will post pictures as soon as I get a few so that everyone can see the progress.

We would love to here from you guys....we love comments.....

Caveira Test on a Bologna Budget

Brick update:

OK....

We went to see the brick supplier (he is the nicest man) and as luck would have it, none....not one of the bricks in the previous pictures was available from the supplier. Then to top it off, my favorite and the close second are also more expensive the our allowance. The other selections weren't the correct size/design for our home. Who knew that selecting brick would be so darn complex.....not I said the first time home builder!

I hope that isn't a sign that my selections will always be more then our budget! Shomari and I always seem to walk in the store and pick the most expensive product....not purposely.... it just always happens that way! Caveira Test on a Bologna Budget

I explained what the supplier said to the builder and went back to the drawing board to select a brick that is available by the supplier and in our budget. But Listy (the builder's wife) insisted that she would contact the company that supplies the brick and get a quote. We waited for several weeks for the quote (still hoping but certainly looking for a back up) and it isn't as bad as we originally thought. In fact it is very possible for us to get the brick we select originally, if we go with a different color mortar (a less expensive mortar).

We will make a selection between these 2...let us know what you think...

Leveling the land....Footer, Foundations, Concrete...

OK...here is a quick update of the past couple of weeks.

First the level the land!

Then they came out and staked off the footprint, so now we can stand in our house :-), which looks small, but I think everyone says that when there are no walls. I think Shomari is freaking out because it looks so small...

Next....
I knew that they would come back and bring more machinery! This time they brought a digger thing (that's what I call it)!

Next day....
The portion of the footing that was dug today is the at the back of the house, and I hope that tomorrow they will dig out the rest of the footing completing the footprint! Creating a two foot trench that we could hide in, in the case an attack from the neighbors broke out, hehehehe, just kidding, the attack would more than likely come from the Ninjas hiding in the trees. OK...can't you tell it is late and that I am tired....(I am sure Tracie and Kii can tell....we always got goofy late at night)

Check back soon for an update.

Our Lot

Today Listy called to inform us that they are planning to break ground either tomorrow or Monday. Exciting!

We also have an appointment with the brick supplier to select the brick color for our new home.

First Choice but I showed this to the builder and it is greater than of our allowance and if I upgrade it will be in the kitchen and in the master bath!

This is my second first choice!
I haven't shown it to the builder. It isn't Shomari's favorite.

This is the second choice (very close second). Shomari loves it!

This is our third choice. I am not sure if I am crazy about it but Shomari likes it.

I guess we'll see which one makes the final cut on Saturday! Would love to hear your opinion, but please remember it is only your opinion.

Yeah...let the fun begin!

I think it is really happening!

Today has been a HUGE day. We paid our earnest money/deposit, signed the contract, and officially put our home on the market again! This is really happening and it feels absolutely magnificent!

We have a few minor things to correct around the house (clean carpet, paint door trim, etc.) and the sign with be placed in the yard! Wish us luck and pray that it sales quickly and at a great price!

Happy Anniversary

Three years ago today Shomari, McKenzie and I received the keys to our first home! A day that I’ll always remember. The journey to the home was full of many emotions...in fact they ran the gamut

We toured 70+ homes and as much as we adore our home we still never found the ‘perfect’ match for us. Don’t get me wrong we absolutely love our wonderful abode. We’ve create hundreds if not thousands of incredible memories in this home and that alone has made the next chapter in our life a struggle to move toward.

  • Many have asked why?!
  • Why in the world do you want to move?
  • I absolutely love your home! Why are you moving?
  • What’s WRONG! Why are you leaving your home?
  • And the list goes on and on.....

Shomari & I often think, why not? We are moving because it was never our intent to stay. Shomari and I have always dreamt of building a home. A home that is a complete and utter reflection of us. A home hand picked from the beginning to end. A home with a floor-plan that we helped design (or at least rearrange). A home that will scream Shomari & Shavon through and through. Any and everyone that truly knows us also knows that we are dreamers and we dream BIG in fact GIGANTIC sometimes! We are grateful and thank our Father daily for our blessings but we also believe in His promises and are continuously striving to receive each and every gift he has to give us.

We thank you for your continued support and prayers through this and all other exciting adventures in our lives. Again please visit often to see the updates!
